Speaker Peter Jones on Cave Photography

Something for everyone!

The Eastern Maine Camera Club will meet 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov 3rd, at the Bangor Parks and Recreation Building, 647 Main St. Guest speaker will be Peter Jones, speaking on Cave Photography.

Peter has put together a show that will have something for everyone. How often have you seen photos from deep inside the earth?! In his own words...

"It is a mix of some of my better images over the years, some history of work that I have done at Carlsbad Caverns NP, some of the more complicated images I’ve made and details of how the images were created. There’s also a very brief introduction as to how I got into caving, cave photography and being a potter (my full time career for 43 years). At the end of the presentation, I chose one image that I took a couple of years ago to illustrate all the post capture processing I did on it to become the final image. I will also bring along a lot of gear I use to take my images. The final thing I will do during the presentation is to take questions from people."  "...I don’t want to overwhelm with technical detail, but I also do want to show that some of what I do requires advanced knowledge and techniques to make it appear easy and seamless. In short, it should provide something for everyone. Certainly what I do is likely to be very different from what most photographers do, so it should be a nice sidetrack for people to learn about."

The event is free and open to all. For information, call 207-318-9995 or email info@easternmainecameraclub.org.

Photography With A Message

An Exhibit Worth Seeing

Photography is a medium for depicting the human condition. Scenes capturing every day life on urban streets provide momentary reflection of ourselves in the act of living.  The AW@3Fish Gallery in Portland has such an exhibit with images from one of our upcoming speakers. The exhibit will be open until September 20.

"Urban Street Shots"

These are street shots taken in several cities around the world, commenting on the human landscape.

The presentation is in the square format because I feel it makes the portraits more intimate, closer up. For a preview of these photographs go to the "Urban Street Shots" gallery on my website: vanvoorstvanbeestfinefoto.com

You can get a look at the gallery web site here:  http://www.addisonwoolley.com/

Take the opportunity to see this fine work if you are in the vicinity of Portland.

Not Getting Club Emails?

Some members have reported trouble, here's some tips that may help.

Some members are reporting that they are not getting the emails that Don sends out regularly.  Don sends the emails as a "Newsletter" from our website.  So the emails get generated by the web site, and are automatically sent to all members who have registered on the web site, paid their dues and subscribed to the newsletter.  Oh, and they are sent to the email address you registered with.  They come from info@easternmainecameraclub.org.

So there are a couple things you can check if you are not getting the emails.

  1.  Is your email registered correctly on our web site?
  2.  Are you subscribed to the Newsletter?
  3.  Is mail from info@easternmainecameraclub.org going to your spam folder?

So for the first item, log on to our web site and click on the "My Account" link at the very top of any page.  There you will see a "Security/Identity" tab, where you can change your email address (you can't change your id, that always stays the same).

To check that you are subscribed to the newsletter go to the "Newsletter" tab.  There you will see a check box (image below) for the "EMCC Somewhat Daily Newsletter".  That has to be checked in order for the emails to be sent to you.  Only members can sign up for this newsletter.

Also notice there is a "View Previous Editions" link.  You can always go there to see all the communications we have sent.  Check it out, it's a good place to look and see if you have been missing anything.

If all of that is OK and you are still not getting your emails you may want to check your spam folder.  All email systems are a little different but almost all have a way to mark email as "Not Junk".  Several of our members with AOL mail have found the newsletters going to spam.  Below I'll include some instructions I found online for marking email as "not spam" in AOL.  If you are using another system and can't figure it out just send me an email, let me know what system you have,  and I'll see if I can dig up some instructions for you.

How to View Previous Newsletters

Once a week, sometimes more, sometimes less, Don sends out email communications to members that have signed up for the "Somewhat Weekly" newsletter.  Only members have access to sign up for that newsletter.  In this post I will show you how to subscribe/unsubscribe to that newsletter, and show you how to view past newsletters, in case a glitch in the matrix causes you to miss one.

First, when I give you access to the member area the first time, I always sign you up for the newsletter.  So you should start getting the newsletter automatically.  If you want to turn that off or on here's what you can do.

  1.  Go to "My Account" at the top right of any page on the site
  2.  Click on the "Newsletters" tab
  3.  Check or Uncheck the "Emcc Somewhat Weekly" check box to subscribe or unsubscribe.

That's it.  The image below illustrates the options.

Also notice the "View Previous Editions" link.  Clicking that will take you to a page with a list of all the emails that have gone out.

I'll also include that link here, but remember you have to be logged in to our site, and you must have access to the member area (meaning your dues have to be up to date).  Link to view previous newsletters

Snack Sign Up

I've created a new snack sign up form at SignUpGenius.com.  This is the first time I've ever tried it, seems like it will work to allow people to sign up and get automatic email reminders when it's your turn to bring snacks.  Give it a whirl.  Let me know if it works or not.  If you know of something better and would like to take over managing this just let us know!!!

Here's the link to sign up for snacks:  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0d48aeaf2fa0fd0-snack
